When the iPad made its debut, people said, "Whatever, I have a laptop for that." Very quickly, though, the potentials of the iPad became better understood. As the industry caught on and Apple's accountants began rubbing their hands with glee, the other leading computer and mobile phone companies sat up and took note. Tablets like the iPad became the modern must-have. Of course, Dell wants a piece of the action. That is why they introduced the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this tablet makes the grade and is worth buying is what we are going to try to resolve in this article.

Alas, the plainest negative for this product is its maker: Dell. Dell isn't really noted for making good and reliable products. And as for Dell's customer service: well, let's just say if it owned a trophy shelf, it would not be overloaded with consumer accolades. After your product warranty lapses, you are going to be charged for customer service calls to the company - at least that is what many customers claim. Purchasing a product from this company can have future implications - and not just cost - which may well outweigh the quick savings from it being a relatively low-cost purchase.

The Dell Streak 7 uses the Android OS (this version is affectionately called Froyo), which means that it should permit you to multitask between a few different apps somewhat easily. The sytem's notification service keeps you updated even if all applications aren't open and running, and simultaneously, you can keep your GPS data and listen to MP3s. It provides easy access to your Gmail and other e-mail applications and accounts, so you don't have to be worried about whether someone can reach you when you have your tablet with you.

Video chat was not included with the initial iPad offering, and it's great that it is with the Dell Streak 7 tablet. Video chat is built-in with this tablet through Qik software and a camera panel that faces front. The only catch is that the only people you can chat with are people who have the same Dell Streak tablet or a compatible device. Simply put, the video chat function is not all-encompassing in its application. The built-in On Demand service offered by Blockbuster is a decided plus for the Dell Streak 7 tablet. It's no secret that Blockbuster has been going through its own share of troubles lately so we aren't very sure if this is really a selling point.

Reviews right now are few and far between, but it does seem that a lot of people are leery as to the reasons why this tablet was createdd. The Dell Streak 7 tablet's real use is limited by its not being universal and its consequent inability to communicate with incompatible devices. Nonetheless, a strong desire for a tablet computer coupled with a limited budget may make this tablet an ideal way to acquaint yourself with the technology. Just make certain you are aware of what you are purchasing before you actually commit your money to the company.
